Shankarpur located in the eastern district of Midnapore. Shankarpur is a small village, surrounded by a nice sea beach. Mostly, still undiscovered, Shankarpur is not such a popular tourism destination like Digha or Mandarmani. Instead, the small village happens to be serene, cut off from the tourist crowd,
crowded by the local inhabitants, mostly fishermen and other such natives. Shankarpur sea beach one of the main fishing harbour project which supplies fish to the local hotels, as well as important state markets across West Bengal. The sea beach holds attraction for a beautiful sunset, at a point where two rivers meet ( viz. The Mohana ). Large leafed casurinas and eucalyptus trees welcome remote tourists, here and give them an opportunity to enjoy the true culture of rural as well as Bay Of Bengal.

How to Reach Shankarpur
By Bus: Regular bus services are available till Digha, from Dharmatalla / Esplanade , Goalpark, etc and happen to be the best option, if one considers road journey. One has to get down at Chaulkhola, just near to Ramnagar railway station. The sea beach is located at a distance of 12 – 15 kms from Chaulkhola. Entire travel coverage takes 4 – 5 hours.By Rail:
The following trains are available till Digha. A trekker can be hired from digha, to Shankarpur (approximately a 40-50 min journey).
•2857 Tamralipta express departure time 6:40AM from Howrah and reaches Digha at 10AM.
•8001 Kandari express departure time 7:50AM from Howrah and reaches Digha at 12 noon.
•5722 Pahria express departure time 2:15PM and reaches Digha at 5:50PM
Connectivity through air is only vide Netaji Subhas International Airport, based at Dumdum, Kolkata which is 190 Km away from the destination. Buses and hired cars are available from this juncture, on prior bookings. The entire journey takes about 5 hours approximately.
The destination just like Digha and Mandarmani, is famous for Bengalee cuisine viz. Aloo posto, dal and macher jhol. King size prawns and other delicacies are also available at the local restaurants. Chinese cuisines and moghlhai dishes are also available on order.
Shankarpur hosts many hotels like NEST, Sandy Bay, hotel Ashoka etc. Govt. Tourist lodges also available like, Joar, Matsyagandha, Kinara. Rooms are available on prior booking. They offer a comfortable stay, along with a variety of cuisines to choose from. Tariffs on an average varies between Rs 400 /- to Rs 1600/- depending on the kind of room booked.
